“More than anything else the sensation is one of perfect peace mingled with an excitement that strains every nerve to the utmost, if you can conceive of such a combination.” ~Wilbur Wright
TODAYYYYYYYYY.
OH my hell. Today is TODAY. Not just a regular old Tuesday when I rummage through my closet thinking of how fat my ass has gotten. Today is a very special episode of Tuesday with a special guest star and perhaps a full hour instead of a half an hour. HOLY MOTHERFUCKER. Stick a giant ass fork in me.
Though back to being totally un-biased for a second. I really am a firm believer in democracy and voting which should be a non-partisan issue. I’ve been doing lit drops and lawn signs, here, there and everywhere and a few weeks ago I encountered a woman who said that she just wasn’t going to vote. My age, too. But yeah, she just shrugged it off as if it were nothing and then went back to her rural, blue collar life. I don’t get it. And yet people are worried about ME voting. You know, because I am black (newsflash: I am black) and black people don’t ordinarily vote and suddenly the “african american vote” has propelled me into popularity and having strangers remind me to vote. Um…thank you…? I cannot wrap my head around not voting and each time I find someone who doesn’t vote it’s like “And so you put your pants on both legs at a time? How is it living under that rock?” If people want to live in a democracy and enjoy the fruits of its labor then wouldn’t it serve them well to vote? Or is it just me?
Regardless of party affiliation or race or gender (remember when black women were like being courted because they couldn’t possibly decide between Obama and Clinton? sense the sarcasm) just vote. It’s easy and painless and you even get a sticker. Bonus points if your polling station provides you with fresh baked goods.
Now back to my regularly scheduled heightened sense to freak the fuck out.

Wait a second… today IS TODAY! Thanks for the reminder!
I don’t know which is worse people who are too apathetic to vote or people who, as of last night, were still undecided. Either way, I’m so glad Today is TODAY!
Yay! I can’t wait to call my mom tonight!
on this very special episode of today, i just want to say thank you for all the hard work you’ve done to get us here, and OH MY GOD I MIGHT EXPLODE I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL TONIGHT!!!!!
Does any one else feel a little queasy?
I voted at 7:10 AM and did NOT get a sticker. I’m totally bummed.
I am always shocked about people who do not vote, or vote against their best interests. Like women, young single sexually active women, voting for Republicans. Are they mad???
I didn’t get a sticker or baked goods. (Note: there were donuts, but they weren’t for the voters, only the polling volunteers. WTF?)
This is going to be the longest day ever, isn’t it?
I am going to have a (small) glass of champagne if Obama wins.
You’re black?!!
I’m going to get rip roaring trashed and howl at the moon WHEN Obama wins! I can’t even deal with the idea of him losing, so I have to be optimistic. Despite the fact that I am totally scared.
On people who don’t vote: They should be forced to live in a country where they CAN’T vote. I bet about a week would do it. We take far too much for granted in this country. So glad to see us jazzed about this election, even if it took everything going to hell to do it.
“Like women, young single sexually active women, voting for Republicans. Are they mad???”
Uh, no we are not mad. It is possible that some people may have a different opinion than you and still be reasonable, intelligent people.
One of my coworkers, a man whose title is “Editor-in-Chief,” does not register to vote because he doesn’t want to risk getting called for jury duty.
It’s looking so good. I feel so excited that it really and truly could happen that I might puke. Seriously, HB, I’m about to puke. But in a really good way.
GodDAMN. I’m so excited—you must be out of your frickin’ mind!
And… wasn’t the outcome AWESOME?
breaking my all lurking all the time policy to say thanks for voting.
Your decision’s got people in london – black, white, east asian, south asian – tearing up.
This totally makes up for the whole inflicting Bush on us twice thing.
i cannot, for the life of me, understand the concept of NOT voting. i grew up in a house where it wasn’t a CHOICE…it just was. you vote. the end.
You’re black?
Did you get a sticker here in NY? Because there were no freaking stickers at my polling station! There were baked goods but you had to BUY them, damn it.
Here (downunder), we get fined if we don’t vote. I know that sounds like the exact opposite of a democracy – but at least everyone votes. Well, except for those idiots who don’t fill the form in and just throw their vote away!
