Aim low

“In minds crammed with thoughts, organs clogged with toxins, and bodies stiffened with neglect, there is just no space for anything else.” ~Alison Rose Levy
Each day my sinuses wake up temperamental and fickle. Their only goal is to cause torture somewhere on par with forcing me inside of Circus, Curcus for 19 hours surrounded by clowns. Because I find the act of breathing to be a chore, I’m limited in my vocabulary because after each word I try to inhale and find myself light headed since the oxygen has no way of getting to my brain. So I leave you with photos from both SXSW and St. Patrick’s Day this past weekend. I’m also reluctantly showing this photo just because I’m a generally cruel person who thinks that all people should suffer at least once in their lives. Your turn! View if your eyes can stand to be assaulted by such an onslaught of terrible images. Neither set is particularly exciting but neither is my constant internal debate of when it is time to invest in a neti pot.
Later this week I start boot camp and then my friend, El and I will be going on a photo adventure. I’m aiming really low with my hopes and dreams right now. I hope that the boot camp makes me a little less pool ball in shape and that the photo adventure will keep my pictures from looking like they were taken by a blind woman with webbed hands. My dream is to breathe without feeling pressure in my eardrums that causes my eyeballs to bulge out of their sockets. The latter will determine much of the course of this week.

SO proud of you and the bootcamp thing. I am starting week two and you know how that’s been. :S
My advice?
GO AT YOUR OWN PACE.
Otherwise, you will want to barf twice and die.
I’m just sayin…

It sounds like you need to get allergy tested. I used to have lots of sinus problems, and dealing with all of my different allergies has helped a lot!
Nic says:
OH, I suffer from the same sinus plague, but lately it has been getting better! Let me share with you!
First, flying fucks your ears up. I stayed grounded after my last sinus infection for an extra two weeks and it helped tremendously. So I started taking some tips from my doctor. Be extremely well-hydrated in the two days before your flight and then drink lots of water during your flight. About 45 minutes before take off/landing (if it’s a long flight) shoot some neosynephrine up your nose to whip your Eustachian tubes into submission. If you’re uncomfortable before flight, take some Advil to decrease some of the swelling and irritation in your sinuses.
Second, stay well hydrated day to day and cut back on dairy. I don’t know why it works, but it does.
All in all, I am a MUCH happier person even if I pee a ton, and I too was considering the neti pot.
Angella says:
Yay for boot camp!
The one starting here April 4th was booked, so I’m doing a cardio circuit. I signed up for the May Boot Camp.
May we both be buff and beautiful by July. MWAH!
Angella says:
Also! Envious about the photo adventure. I am feeling uncreative and uninspired lately. A photo adventure would be fantastic.
Have fun!

Have you ever tried one of those nose spray devices that supposedly help clear allergies/sinuses? Sounds a bit gross, I admit, but I was reading about it in Women’s Health and contemplating trying one out.
On a related note, my old roommate in NYC was just on a date with a guy, who brought up his nose clearing device and told her ALL about it and the junk it emits. Shortly thereafter, he proceeded to talk about how he only pays $400 a month for a room IN SOHO, but…wait for it…he shares a bathroom and kitchen downstairs in the basement WITH THE JANITOR. This was a third date; needless to say, there won’t be a fourth.

I thought the comment you left on your “early morning” photo was pretty funny — about having pierced your inner ear just to piss off your dad. What rebellion! I like it!

I used to have seriously fucked-up sinuses; I grew out of it over time, but I totally feel your pain…literally. While I never tried it, a friend of mine with similar issues SWEARS by the neti pot, so it might be worth a shot.
Travis Mamone says:
I wish I could’ve gone to SXSW. Two of my favorite bands, No Kids and Times New Viking, were there.
Lori says:
Now is the time to invest in the neti pot. I got one a few weeks ago, and it’s worked wonders. My husband got the classic version (made in China); I got the one made by some women’s co-op in the US. I like mine better.
Kimberly says:
Ugh. I know what you mean. My eyes and the constant need to rub them until they water tells me that the big bloom is about to happen.
Love your morning pic
