Betty Crocker panties

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.” ~Doug Larson

Unintentionally my obsession with wine has abated. After years of coming home to sit down with a glass of pinot noir, I instead come home and just sit down and get stuff done. The amount that has been going on lately has left me exhausted and the whole opening of a bottle and finding a glass and then pouring it out is daunting. Really now, I wish I could find someone to hold the glass for me and bring it to my lips when needed. There is also the minor problem of no longer being able to kill two birds with one stone. The only fermented beverage sold in a grocery store is beer and though I enjoy Magic Hat, I’m not craving it every evening. Purchasing wine now requires more than one stop and there is no walking just driving and oh my god, the indolence.

Now, instead of drinking (at home. Alone.), I sleep or cook or watch “Tell Me You Love Me” and “Dexter”. I live this new exciting life that involves television and listening to Otis Redding while whisking or leaving the house (gasp!) to go to the movies. And no worries, I’ve already promised Danielle that I would start knitting after a project I’ve been working on is completed. This bodes well for what I expect to be the most excruciating winter in seven years.

I keep a word document of all the things I’d like to make. Anything that I’d like to roll around in gets highlighted but those things are becoming few and far between. This is where all seven of you haven’t run for the door after learning how damn boring I’ve become, will come in. I need recipes. These recipes can really be anything but must cater to my pescetarian needs. Which means – and I’m sure there will be tears because of this – no bacon. Please and thank you.

LOL. I have plenty of recipes that do not involve bacon, no matter how much I love the stuff. Probably my fave fish recipe is trout poached in Reisling with carrots and leeks. Oh, and this wonderful salmon that you top with a saffron mussel sauce. The latter is great on a cold winter day. Speaking of winter, I also like to make potato leek soup. The recipe calls for chicken broth but I have been meaning to try it out with a vegetable broth base. Perhaps you could try out the change. I’ll send you links for the recipes.

I drank a LOT less when I lived in a dry city. Now that I can buy wine/beer at Target, life is much blurrier.

I have lots of recipes I can send you! (I’ve been collecting lots lately.) I’ll send some to you tonight. I’m writing myself a note.

I did not know that you were a Dexter fan. I am too! (Though I prefer the books a wee bit over the Showtime series.) You have great taste in TV. And serial killers.

Check out the Vegetarian Five Ingredient Cookbook by Nava Atlas. It’s (gasp!) five ingredient dishes that are easy and yummy and fast!

You know, I have about a bajillion recipes and cookbooks, yet I get all of my recipes off the internet. It’s crazy. I have a really good tomato and bleu cheese soup recipe though, so let me know if you like those ingredients and I’ll send it along.

Oh, and I love Dexter! I need to catch up on this season though.

Are you an all seafood eater or just fish? Clams, oysters, mussels, crab, lobster, holy cow I just made myself hungry.

Any other food things we should keep in mind before suggesting recipes?

I mourned the loss of the downtown wine store. My liver however, has not. I’ve been more productive as a result. Word on the street – another one is opening up. Your cupcakes look delightful!
