“It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life” ~ P.D. James

As part of my quest to become reacclimated to Upstate NY, I did what any good New Yorker would do; I went apple picking. I also saw a dead turkey and almost hit a horse.

Welcome home.

Great pics! Looks like fun! Are you going to make anything delicious with your apples?

Probably an apple cake. I’m looking forward to using the weeks after my last trip to DC to cook and bake. Lots of “food porn” to come.

Thanks. And apples seriously taste better straight from the tree.

Yum – apple cake. You’ve inspired me to make my favorite apple cake recipe tonight. Of course, I will be using the apples that I purchased at the store yesterday… but I bet it will taste good anyway.

I’ve also contemplated an apple crumb and a pie and apple muffins. Pretty much anything I can do with apples given that I doubt I’ll eat all of those by myself.

Love the quote at the top. I keep a book of quotes and I’ll definitely have to add that one.

Interesting that I can get all wistful about the gorgeous Mid-Atlantic fall and English autumns simultaneously. What a great quote (English autumn is gradually appearing now), and what lovely photos.

    Sigh.

I miss home! It’s surprising that the leaves haven’t begun to turn yet this late! I grew up in northern Vermont so seeing those mountains and almost tasting that tang from a freshly picked apple has made my mouth water and my heart weep. Oh, I miss home!

I really want to hate you and your gorgeous pictures and apple picking and dead turkeys. No, really I do but I can’t. So I’ll just be jealous instead.

Thanks for sparing us a picture of the dead turkey. :) So jealous of your authentic autumn experience!

Oh, the apples. I was in Michigan this weekend and devoured my weight in the tastiest apples I’ve ever eaten. And that’s a lot of weight. Do you know what that many apples can do to a person? (For your sake, I truly hope not.)
