“Babies are such a nice way to start people.” ~Don Herrold

I feel like I’ve had a rough week. I’m tired and cranky with a side of restlessness as I’m settling into things. Though yesterday afternoon I realized that my crankiness and feelings of being unsettled and generally ‘floppy’ do not compare to those of a newborn. I mean, one day you’re inside all warm and cozy and everything is wonderful and blissful and next thing you know, you’re being ripped from your habitat and thrust into a world where it’s like 95% humidity even in the shade and the light…oh the fucking light…it’s everywhere. People are poking and prodding you and all you want to do is be left alone and get some fucking sleep.

Melissa

When I tried to coax my niece awake yesterday by poking her, I started to feel bad because she’s had a pretty shitty week and she wanted some rest and there I – along with her parents – were telling her to wake the fuck up because when I show my father these photos, he’s going wonder if the child has eyeballs. And I’m going to have to say “I really don’t know.”

I also realized yesterday that I would make the worst mother ever, because I find newborns to be so very boring, but also, if my brothers continue to have children and G gets the five (oh yes, FIVE) children that he so desires, then I can never have children, and neither of my parents will notice. Besides, my father has a hard time remembering MY name, so I wouldn’t want to add more burden to his life by forcing him to remember anymore names than he already has to.

Way cute baby. And it’s all about the smell that makes newborns so interesting. I guess it’s the human equivalent to new car smell.

    Oh, she’s beautiful!

And I just love those little mitten things babies wear–so cute!! Although it does kind of make them look like roasted turkeys…

She is lovely. Can I have her? Can’t they just make another one for me?

she’s so sweet and beautiful and quite munchable!

and babies? totally overrated. yes, i said it, and i have two and i personally think the first 6 months sucked. i’m not a baby person and hated to babysit but yes to answer your question, i love my offspring.

i like it when the can crap in a toliet on command, and tell you were it hurts.

and don’t worry about shooting out the kidlets. you are far too young and have a lot of life to live. only when you think you’ve done it all and seen it all, do you start to think about procreating (is that spelled correctly?)

really, they are positive, i swear!

I feel way better now knowing that i’m not the only one that finds newborns to be boring. Ok…so they are cute to look at for the first 5 mins of their sleep and then….they just sit there like globs with arms and legs. What exactly are you supposed to do with them?

    She is so very beautiful.

Your father would probably appreciate not having more names to remember ;-)

At first when I saw the title of this post I thought oh shit what did I do! Because obviously it’s always about me. :)

    Your niece is beautiful. Congratulations.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one angling for Worst Mother Ever title. I think we should start a new genre of Yo Mama jokes. “Yo mama so bad, she saw you with little gloves and popped you in the oven to roast you like a turkey.”

(She is beautiful. Don’t roast her like a turkey.)

She’s just so freaking tiny. I really don’t know what I’d do with a newborn, because all they do is sleep and then eat. My brother pretty much was just staring at her and my sister-in-law was still in her pj’s at 3PM. And then they went back and forth on feeding schedules.

Life with a newborn: Exhilarating. Granted one day, I’ll have a newborn and I’ll be like “ohmygod…it’s so great and wonderful and I want like 10 more!!!” Of course that day will not be at any point in the near future.
